As we ease into summer after a very dry Spring, planting is one of our essential jobs to be ready for late summer and the autumn. We are sowing our sunflower seeds ready for late summer picking, pumpkin seeds for our new autumnal pumpkin patch and drilling maize ready for our incredible maize maze. Our cows quietly gave birth to their calves, our ewes gave birth to their adorable lambs, our pigmy goats gave birth to their kids and our bunny rabbits have now produced their little off spring of baby bunnies, our Farm Park is bursting with new life.

All our new mums and babies are doing very well, baby goats ‘Kids’ are very social animals so they all love seeing our visitors and they adore (just like humans) to be cuddled by their mums. New to our farm this year are our guinea fowl and Indian runner ducks. The runner ducks are let out of their quarters every day to roam the farm courtyard in all their glory. They tend to stay in groups but love to roam the yard keeping our farm team on their toes. The guinea fowl are settling in nicely in their new pen, foraging on grain and greens.
The Farm Park is now open Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday and every day throughout May half term. Booking online is available from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Our farm trailer will be open every day serving hot & cold drinks, snacks and cuddly cute toys!

The Farm Shop has some wonderful seasonal vegetables such as asparagus, purple sprouting broccoli, radishes, rhubarb and new jersey potatoes, all these create some super side dishes. Our butchery team are constantly making delicious BBQ food, as a family working beef farm, beef is our main objective and we produce very high quality meat. All our beef is dry-aged and hung, giving the best taste and texture while using every part of the carcass to reduce waste. Slow cooking or quick grilling, our butchers will always advise which cut of meat will suit your needs. Try one of our ‘Steak Night’ boxes for two or stock up your freezer with our beef boxes or browse our online click & collect BBQ selection.

Afternoon tea is something to be celebrated in the summer. As the nation gradually opens up as part of the lockdown roadmap, we are constantly looking for ways for our visitors to enjoy this popular, traditional tea trend. We aim to open up our team room cabin (pre-book only) for a limited number of covers per day for our guests to enjoy. Tea on the veranda/garden or in our cabin can be booked in advance online for small social gatherings, or just tea for two. Our booking system and menu will be launching soon so keep an eye on our website and social media pages. Our takeaway deli is always open serving hot & cold drinks, lunch, snacks and picnic food.

It’s the height of the Glamping season, probably the most favoured season through till September, although with our Herdwick safari lodge you don’t really have to rely on the great British weather being inside with an outdoor feel, there is no better time of the year to really relax and unwind in the great outdoors and experience the Hertfordshire countryside.
