March is not only a new month, we also have the anticipation of early spring lambs, Easter fun on the farm and the opening of our glorious Farm Park.

After not such a fabulous February being hit like most businesses by the weather, the madness of March can begin. Preparing fields and slowly allowing our animals out from their winter quarters can be quite challenging, especially when there is still frost on the ground. But once our babies are out in the fields they soon realise how exciting being free range and feeding on the grass can be.

Our Farm Park opens its gates once again to our amazing visitors, it’s a pleasurable feeling seeing everyone appreciate what us farmers are trying to achieve and for them to enjoy the Hertfordshire countryside. We always advise to just wrap up warm, put on your wellington boots and enjoy the first signs of spring. Our Farm Park season runs from April-October and we will be open 11am-3pm over the Easter Hertfordshire school holidays, including, bank holidays and weekends. Lambing is important this time of year and although it can be a joyous occasion, unfortunately some babies do get left behind so we’ve introduced feeding sessions at the farm. Not only is this educational but it’s so lovely to see children (and adults) help to feed the young orphans, giving our animals a great start in life. We will be running our session times over the Easter holidays from 30th March – 15th April, see our website for details. www.foxholesfarm.com.

The farm shop is always keen to stock quality seasonal produce and this month purple sprouting broccoli makes an appearance, along with spring lamb, watercress, chicory and if you’re more adventurous, pak choy. Although we do aim for seasonal fruit & vegetables, this time of year some favourites can be quite difficult to source. Our Farm Shop is full to the brim with Mother’s Day (Sunday 11th March) gifts, from chocolates to artisan pink gins, pretty animal themed scarfs, kitchenware, note books, coasters and much more. With Easter on it’s way we have plenty of fresh turkeys, Easter themed goodies too. Granny Smith’s Tea Room will be serving our popular high teas (advanced booking required) and we will also be serving a super special Sunday menu for those special mums! So we can see why people call this month ‘Mad March’!
