  • January – Blog 2021

After what seems to have been a very weird Christmas and New Year, we find ourselves in yet another lockdown #lockdown3. We would like to reassure all our customers that we are open seven days a week and that our opening times are as normal. Last month we launched our on-line shop making it easier for you to shop at the click of a button. We have made it easier for our customers to ‘click & collect’ if you’re shielding or feeling anxious to visit indoor spaces, we will pick and pack ready for you to collect, or you may wish to pop in and say hello to our team. We serve takeaway hot drinks and snacks, so if you’re doing your daily exercise you are more than welcome to stop off for a break, you can either call us to order by phone or just pop in and say hello we are always here.

January is the month in which we all aim to get a little bit healthier and with the colder months coming our butchers will cut any meat to order. Healthy stir-fry’s using beef, chicken and pork or a slow cooked pulled pork or sausage casserole are just some of the many recipes to cook this month. Our veg and fruit boxes are very popular starting at just £15, along with our essentials section for all your daily needs.

In season this month are celeriac, red cabbage, savoy cabbage, swede, parsnips, cauliflower, carrots, pheasant, partridge, duck and venison. Although there are not many game shoots happening this year we will always try to source as locally as we can but stocks are very limited. If you’re a marmalade lover, Seville oranges come into season this month, perfect for Jams and marmalade as Seville’s are sour like a lemon yet warm like an orange, so great for cooking. Avocado, grapefruits, blood oranges, lemons and limes also appear this month, so get your lockdown cooking heads on.

Haggis – love it or hate it (we certainly love it), can be ordered in advance from our on-line shop or by phone. Paired with traditional whisky gravy, potatoes, swede or turnips makes a great end to a forever long month. We have a wide range of fish available fresh or frozen, fully sustainable and delicious. Whether you are making a humble fish pie, grilling or baking we have lots of tasty fish for any supper.

Breakfast, the best start to the day! From local and regional suppliers our artisan granola, mueslis and porridge are the perfect way to start any day. If you’re into baking our flour supplier Wessex Mill have a range of bread, pizza and culinary flours ready for the oven. Whether you’re baking traditional banana bread or like to bake gluten-free, you’ll get great results.

Here at Foxholes Farm we will always make your shopping experience as safe as we possibly can, our team have all the government guidelines in place, so whether you’re into a dry January, Veganuary or Ginuary, stay safe and enjoy a balanced approach supporting all our lovely producers and suppliers. We will always continue serving our local community and we thank you for your continued support.
