The harvest season has arrived and our combines and bailers are working continuously all the hours harvesting our Hertfordshire fields ready for autumn planting. From now until the end of September harvest is as important to us as our animals, as it supplies feed and bedding for the months ahead, this is what a farmers’ life is all about.
Our farm park animals are lapping up the good sunshine grazing the fields, it`s so lovely to see our spring new borns happy and healthy which makes our hard work even more worthwhile. The Farm Park houses new members this month, our stunning Jersey boy calves are now big enough to graze in their own paddock also our orphan lambs born at Easter are now happily up to mischief playing in the orchard and we seem to have doubled the amount of bunnies in the barn, so we have had to make their enclosure even bigger.
The Farm shop has many seasonal delights this month with locally grown corn on the cob, beetroot and juicy radishes, together with seasonal fruits such as blackberries, plums and raspberries delivered fresh from the growers. Make the most of fresh salad leaves, new potatoes and green beans while they are in season, this time of year is just great for making fantastic salads, jams and jellies.
The countdown to the school holidays is now over and our Tea Room is serving traditional dishes like a farmers’ full English breakfast to home-made farm scotch eggs, quiche of the day also meat and cheese platters. A children’s menu and lighter bites are available and for the sweeter tooth, delicious cakes & bakes. Our Tea Room is open every day 9am – 4pm.
