The summer may have ended for the school year, but for Farmers across the country, we are not even half way through! The awful winter & early spring weather forced the beginning of harvest to begin 3 weeks later than previous years & the less than scorching summer holidays has meant stop start for the combine harvester. While the Rape-seed ( for vegetable oil) has all been harvested, the wheat is less than half done ( we are yet to bale straw for animals winter bedding, and the field beans, (for animal fodder over winter) has not yet begun. The good news though, is with the harvest so far yielding better than expected. Our new addition at foxholes this month, has been the arrival of our flock of ducks. Lovely characters. Come along to see them & try some of our yummy duck eggs available in store.
We are looking forward to our Cheese & Wine tasting weekend, preparing ourselves by sourcing lots of wonderful new British cheese & delicious wines to compliment them, as well as wonderful chutneys & various biscuits & crackers. We have increased our fresh bakery section to include burger buns, seeded and brown breads & various varieties of lovely fresh rolls. We too have squeezed into our deli range a small, but delightful selection of Mediterranean vegetables and olives, help yourselves to basil & garlic, peri-peri or Athena olives or roasted peppers, Balsamic onions or semi dries tomatoes. We have a selection of new products available for you in our Butchery. Free range Poussin, Chicken Supremes and fantastic black (treacle) bacon, sticky and scrumptious. We would also like to introduce our new trainee butcher Lewis. He will be joining Harry & Mick in September. We, as we are sure you will, wish him well in his new post.
