  • September heralds the start of the game season, British Food Fortnight and our very first Wedding Open Day

As farmers the game season is incredibly important to us and if you have never tasted game produce, then please do try some. Game is not only full of flavour but nutritious and economical too. The grouse season has already started and in the coming weeks, pheasant, duck, rabbit and pigeon will follow. Our butchery counter will be stocked with locally sourced game and our team of friendly butchers are always here to give advice on how to prepare and cook these delicious cuts of meats.

If you would like to learn more about butchery and the “tricks of the trade”, why not try one of our butchery classes. The next class is being run on Thursday 21st September. To book call 01992 552900.

There is so much produce in season this month! If you’re a fruit lover it`s a berry dream this time of year with juicy ripe blackberries and currents. Apples begin to fall and with so many delights from the veg patch you’ll be spoilt for choice. Our farm shop now stocks seasonal beetroot, broad beans, runner beans and fennel, whilst grouse and beef are particularly good at this time of the year and not forgetting our all time favourite, the marrow. This traditional dish is great when oven baked, filled with our very own home-grown beef mince and seasonal onions, making this dish an economical family meal and with British food Fortnight (from 23rd) just around the corner, what better way to celebrate good British food.

We are hosting our first ‘Wedding Open Day’ on Sunday 17th September (12pm-4pm) when we’ll be throwing open our doors to all the “Brides to be”. Come and visit our exclusive event and book your wedding venue deep in the Hertfordshire countryside. Our farm will provide the perfect backdrop for rustic and bespoke ‘Anywhere Weddings’ and Wedding receptions. Meet our excellent wedding coordinator Amanda together with local suppliers who will create a unique, romantic wedding day that you’ll always remember. Free goody bag and free glass of bubbly awaits you on arrival.

Join in with the ‘world’s biggest coffee morning’ here at Foxholes Farm, catch up with friends over a warm cup of tea or coffee here at Granny Smith’s tea room. Help raise funds for a fantastic cause, our team will be making and baking a range of delicious cakes for our customers and in return we ask for a small donation towards the Macmillan cancer support charity. So put the date in your diary, Friday 29th September 10am -12pm, we look forward to seeing you.
