As farmers the game season is incredibly important to us and if you have never tasted game produce, then please do try some. Game is not only full of flavour but nutritious and economical too. The grouse season has already started and in the coming weeks, pheasant, duck, rabbit and pigeon will follow. Our butchery counter will be stocked with locally sourced game and our team of friendly butchers are always here to give advice on how to prepare and cook these delicious cuts of meats.
If you would like to learn more about butchery and the “tricks of the trade”, why not try one of our butchery classes. The next class is being run on Thursday 21st September. To book call 01992 552900.
There is so much produce in season this month! If you’re a fruit lover it`s a berry dream this time of year with juicy ripe blackberries and currents. Apples begin to fall and with so many delights from the veg patch you’ll be spoilt for choice. Our farm shop now stocks seasonal beetroot, broad beans, runner beans and fennel, whilst grouse and beef are particularly good at this time of the year and not forgetting our all time favourite, the marrow. This traditional dish is great when oven baked, filled with our very own home-grown beef mince and seasonal onions, making this dish an economical family meal and with British food Fortnight (from 23rd) just around the corner, what better way to celebrate good British food.
