September… one of the biggest foodie months of the year and a month for reaping all the rewards of harvest! As the farming industry thrives at this time of the year it’s also the time to make sure we are stocked up for the winter months.
We are spoiled when it comes to preserving and this month is the perfect month to extend the longevity of food we grow or buy. Preserving is a wonderful way to lock in those summer flavours, our farm shop has all you need for pickling and preserving. Salt, vinegar, sugar and gluts of fresh fruit and vegetables are available this time of year so it’s time to start preserving.
Currently in season are squashes including butternut and gourds, sweetcorn, courgette, peppers, apples, pears, fennel, blackberries, damsons and raspberries, great for making fruit jellies, pickles and delicious puddings. In the butchery this month we celebrate #LoveLambWeek.. (1st to 7th Sept). A week to celebrate the sustainable production of British lamb and how we rear our flocks from field to fork. Our butchers have years of experience and will always give advice on how to prepare the perfect lamb cut. Whether you are grilling or roasting all our lamb meat is grown here on the farm and reared with care by our farm team, check out our butchers best creations for you to enjoy.
The Game season has begun… although the season kicks off very slowly until mid-autumn our butchers will keep you informed when fresh game is delivered, most of our game is sourced as locally as possible. Venison, guinea fowl, pheasant and partridge are just some wonderful meats to look out for in the butchery.
Every foodies dream, it’s British Food Fortnight (18th Sept to 3rd Oct) a great celebration of British food. Choosing British food means enjoying the diverse and delicious food that our varied countryside and seasonal climate produces. It is a way of rejoicing in the food that is grown on our doorsteps, tasting a part of Britain’s heritage, supporting farmers who maintain our beautiful countryside and with so many other amazing producers like ourselves, we feel quite proud.
The farm park has some new arrivals, more piglets have been born and our new orphan calves are keeping our farm team on their toes with feeding and exercising and generally getting up to mischief on their daily exercise. The goats are as naughty as ever, doing what goats do best, the chickens keep escaping their pens and the runner ducks are just living the life of luxury on the lakes, along with keeping our glamping guests entertained! Our Farm Park will be open every day until the 5th September, then Thursday – Sunday 10.00am to 2.00pm.
Glamping life has been hectic this summer, with so many guests choosing a staycation this year we have had some lovely visitors experiencing our farm life. With full access to the farm park during your stay its a great way to relax and unwind with country views and to see a working farm. With a luxury wood fired hot tub alongside each of our luxury pods and Safari lodge, it’s no wonder our visitors are having such a great time. Our family sized super-pods with panoramic views are well equipped for all seasons, making a late summer break the perfect place for a luxury stay.
So if you’re pickling, preserving or buying make sure you choose the best of British!
