September marks the end of the summer and the start of autumn for us farmers, the beginning of a new year for arable farms as new crops are planted this month ready for next years harvest!
The Farm Park has been busy over the holidays, trying to keep our animals hydrated and cool whilst the temperatures soared was a challenge, but like most grazing animals almost all of their water comes from grazing the moist morning and evening grass. We would also like to thank all our visitors who braved the heat to visit our farm park this summer and everybody who visited the farm throughout the holidays.
The food season is here with so much fresh produce available in our farm shop, we gradually start to see new seasonal products and the race will soon be on for Autumn cooking. Apples, plums and blackberries are all in season and preserving is a great way keep your favourite summer foods in the larder. Our own range of pickled onions, chutneys and jams are readily available or just simply make your own using our delightful range of preserving vinegars.
September focuses on Lamb with ‘Love Lamb Week’ 1st – 7th September, a true celebration to showcase our quality lamb. To celebrate our early Autumn lamb will be on offer throughout September, whole lamb only £160 and half lamb only £85, grass fed and reared on our farm. Enjoy cuts like saddle, loin, breast, fillet, leg and shoulder, which are some of the best cuts of meat on offer.
Local Venison reaches our butchery in any shape or form you require, venison is a lot healthier than other meats as it’s naturally low in fat, high in protein and rich in minerals, offering a good alternative to other red meats, whilst being packed with flavour. Our butchers will be on hand to offer any cooking tips to make sure you make the most of this versatile meat.
Our butcher’s offer a full ‘hands on’ butchery class, our first autumn class is on September 19th, learn the tricks of this amazing trade from cutting to tying and you even get to take home the meat you worked on. Whether you’re a smallholder, chef, caterer or just somebody who wants to get the best out of meat, our classes are made for you.
British Food Fortnight is a date to remember from the 21st September to 6th October. Join us for a national celebration of the nations food & drink, get involved and pop along to our farm where we will be showcasing our own homegrown food and you can taste some of the best quality foods our region has to offer. The Farmer’s Table will be serving up special dishes from the farmhouse kitchen, focusing on what makes us proud we do what we do. Sit indoors or outside we have enough seating for everyone, the Farmers Table also welcomes well behaved dogs on leads to sit outside as we are very pooch friendly, we also have an enclosed children’s play area and plenty of parking.
