After a long harvest and as the fields start to get wetter, some of our cattle are brought inside and our outdoor cows are fed more food and silage, which is grown here on the farm throughout the summer months. The leaves change from green to a golden brown glow, which on low sunny days makes the farm look lovely, along with a slight chill in the air creating an autumnal feel. As we enter the food season and prepare for one of our busiest few months, we also strive for the highest quality produce whilst being as sustainably sourced as possible.
October brings us great food, activities and it’s the scariest month of the year!!!
Our farm Park is open every day throughout Halloween week, 26th October to 3rd November and boy is it filled with fun packed, spooky farm fun. Our team have been getting the barn ready for spooky games and pumpkin carving, we also have a basket of goodies to be won with our ‘scariest scarecrow’ competition. Over the next couple of weeks you can build your own scarecrow by either bringing your own old clothes or you can use some of ours, then use your scariest imagination, the judging takes place on Halloween. Our entry fee includes a pumpkin, barn games, bag of animal feed and entry into our farm park.
The Farmer’s Table will be open every day throughout the half term holidays, serving warming breakfasts and lunch. We’ll also be serving roasts on a Sunday 12noon till 3pm.
This time of year we love to cook warming and satisfying suppers, with the change in the weather our farm shop has lots of seasonal food to get us through the chilliest of days. Squashes, parsnips, main crop potatoes, leeks and lamb all make a seasonal appearance this month and of course pumpkins will be on sale during Halloween. ‘Curry Week’ kicks off at the start of the month, 7th to 13th October, a week of celebrating this great dish, our team will be offering some curry samples produced by our great producers, so pop in and have a try.
The butchery has some great offers on autumn lamb and beef, and with sausage week fast approaching from the 28th October, our butchers will be sampling some of our homemade sausages ready for you to try before you buy. Our autumn butchery classes are on the 17th October and 21st November, our resident butcher will teach you the skill of this amazing trade, if you would like to book any of our classes please call our farm team.
