As Autumn starts to unfold we gradually start to feed our livestock more instead of letting them graze our fields. As the grass stops growing it will deteriorate in quality as the temperature drops, so some of our herds will start to take up residence in our barns. After a hectic Halloween week our Farm Park now starts its long awaited rest from the 1st November until Spring 2022 ready for the lambing season.
It’s the most foodie season of the year and we are so excited this year as we have lots going on within the next couple of months. The butchery has an array of game products, all locally sourced to a high welfare standard with venison, pheasant, guinea fowl and partridge all available. As we celebrate British Game Week (22nd-28th November) this month we like to show off everything on offer with the aim to celebrating British Wild Game, game meat is nutritious and perfect for slow cooking or roasting for warming home cooked dishes.
Our butchery team are getting ready for the festive season. Our food to order 2021 brochure has so much more to make your Christmas ordering easier with no fuss. Our turkeys are sourced locally to ensure they meet the highest possible standards in welfare rearing. Our Beef is all home reared, grass fed and is hung for a minimum of 21 days, our pigs in blankets are handmade and wrapped in streaky bacon. Our new meat hampers are now available to order online. Our Turkey hamper has everything you need for the main event, a turkey ballotine with all the trimmings . Or our festive roasting hamper consists of a range of meats including a turkey ballotine, easy roast chicken with stuffing, roasting beef joint and a gammon joint, perfect for all your entertaining needs over the festive season.
The farm shop deli counter is bursting with new food ideas at this time of year, we have a wide selection of homemade products cooked fresh in our farm kitchen. Fresh pork pies with a gorgeous cranberry topping for small or large gatherings, pork & cranberry sausage rolls or a sweet and savoury treat. Or try our savoury entertaining box, perfect for buffets, serves 6-24 people, so we do all the work for you.
The deli also has some fantastic cheeses to choose from this month like Oxford Blue, a creamy blue cheese or Hereford Hop, a mature cheese smothered with beer hops. Or indulge with great taste award winner Godminster vintage cheddar’s truffle flavour or their new daredevil for all the chilli lovers. Our butchery and farm team will be holding tastings every weekend so you can try before you buy!
In season this month are autumn cabbages, swede, beetroot, red cabbage, parsnips, mushrooms and pears which can all be perfectly matched with seasonal meats such as game and beef for warm hearty dishes. Our gift shop will be open from the 5th November, with some lovely country homewares, beautiful smelling candles and gifts for the fine foodie so come in and take a browse. Or alternatively we always have gift vouchers available in £5, £10 and £20 to spend in our farm shop together with our popular 2022 butchery class vouchers which make great gifts!
