    With new born animals high on the agenda this month our ewes have been brought in from the cold and made comfortable, ready to lamb. February farming also becomes a waiting game for our cows as the calving season will soon get underway. General farm maintenance is important and with so much to do before the opening of our Farm Park, team foxholes are certainly being kept busy.

    School half term is nearly here and we have more exciting children’s activities on offer. Our popular Little ‘Foodie Farmers’ workshops are back for two days and Charlie our butcher is already looking forward to teaching our little foodies the fun way to link sausages. Workshops are 14th and 15th of February, so book now to avoid disappointment as there are limited spaces. We are even throwing in a sausage & mash lunch!

    Our farm shop is fully stocked with local flour, milk, and eggs all ready for Pancake day. We have a good stock of fresh lemons, honey, syrups and fruit for you to flavour your pancakes with your favourite fillings. As we head towards the ‘hungry gap’ (although most food is available all year), some foods in February are not so plentiful so we focus on seasonal produce to give us optimal freshness and flavour.


    The season’s best produce are kale which is healthy and nutritious, celeriac which is great mashed with potatoes or used in soups, venison which is very lean and easy to cook and rhubarb, fantastic for winter desserts. Our special cheeses this month from our deli counter are Oxford Blue, a creamy, salty tasting cheese and Cornish Yarg, a fresh lemony cheese wrapped in edible nettles, fantastic for any cheese board.


    Our butchery classes are a great gift for him or her and provide an enjoyable way to learn the tricks of the trade. Learn different techniques and skills all demonstrated by our friendly butchers including, boning, tying, portioning and splitting.
