  • March – Blog 2020

This month at Foxholes Farm we’re certainly as busy as a ‘mad march’ hare! Early Spring has finally popped its head around the corner and after the bad weather storms last month leaving fences down and debris everywhere, we have been continuously clearing and focusing on the farm. A first priority is making sure our animals are in a safe environment. As the calving season continues we have been super busy moving cows, record keeping and tagging along with keeping our new borns well fed and safe, it’s certainly hard work!

The March food season begins with greens like kale, great for stir-fry, leeks, great baked, purple broccoli and spinach, the first of the seasonal spring onions have arrived and you still have time to make your favourite fruit desserts as rhubarb has just come into season.
As we focus on our meat, our quality home reared beef from our butchery counter is second to none, along with our own lamb and pork. Sourcing some of the best local poultry we have devised some special hampers for you to enjoy this spring, ready to stock up the freezer and make your roasts, stews, casseroles and entertaining even more special. Please ask our butchers about this months specials or to make an order.

Our butchery classes are very popular, March 19th and April 16th are our next dates, learn the tricks of the trade with our hands on class, working from nose to tail with pork in our traditional butchery. Our team of professional butchers will talk you through the various cuts and show you how to bone, cure, tie and cut with the best knowledge of the animal. You even get to take home a goody bag of the meat you have worked on. Price £90 per person, bookings in advance or treat someone special with our butchery gift vouchers on sale in our farm shop.

Pie week is here from the 2nd to the 8th of March. As a fully fledged nation of pie lovers it’s a fun way to get behind the trend along with being a nice way to get all of the family involved in cooking. Here at Foxholes Farm we can supply you with all the ingredients to make a great pie, along with selling our own homemade pies which can be cooked at home or served in our tea room.
Mother’s day (Sunday 22nd March) gifts are readily available in our farm shop, we have some delightful artisan chocolates, wine, bubbly and spirits or some gorgeous scented candles along with scarves, notebooks and country accessories from Alex Clark.

The Farmer’s Table is open for bookings serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon and high tea. To book please call our team on 01992 552900 to avoid disappointment on the day. If you’re stuck on what to buy, why not try our gift vouchers which are available to purchase from our farm shop or tea room, they make a great present all on their own.
