Finally we are beginning to enjoy a little more warm weather as summer and the long school holidays approach us. All of this years new born calves, are now out on the fresh pastures with their mothers enjoying the summer weather. We were blessed with a further 2 litters of baby piglets in June, & they too are enjoying foraging in their grassy paddocks. This years baby chicks previously under heat lamps during the seemingly endless chill, are now with our egg laying hens in their grassy paddock & are due to start laying next month! We have purchased a mammoth new bull, a Aberdeen Angus who is roaming with our heifers– they will become first time mothers early next spring. On our arable farm, the rape-seed is now in full flower & beginning to produce seed pods for fabulous rape seed oil & the Durum & feed wheat crops are producing plentiful heads of corn. With harvest of grain usually being in the last week of July the sunshine is most welcome to ripen our crops.
Our second open day of summer, held at the end of June proved a success, allowing us to welcome many more new faces. Our customers, old and new sampled our range of over 50 British cheeses, farmed baked cakes & biscuits, our own home-cured & cooked hams & fantastic local Juices. The new Apple Lemonade from Cawston Press proved a massively popular purchase ‘Tasting just like homemade’ being the phrase of the day. Our wonderful new range of individual boxed sponge cakes, in 8 different varieties also proved a huge success– ideal for picnics & lunch boxes or just a cheeky afternoon treat. We are currently running a introductory offer of 4 for £5, do try them. Have a good summer and look out for our next event in September.
