After a very dry start this spring we finally embraced the heavy down pours of rain as a welcome relief. With over a months rainfall in two days, our fields can finally prepare for a second silage cut. The summer is always an incredibly busy time as we harvest our arable crops, it’s important for us as farmers to reap what we sow.
Our Open Farm Sunday event was a huge success, the weather was kind which always helps, as so much preparation goes in to this event! We had the chance to open our farm to all our lovely visitors, showing off what we do best. Farm machinery, gun dog displays, fun dog show, dairy milking, kitchen garden tours and local stalls where just some of the things on offer which helped to create a real ‘Back British Farming’ vibe.
Schools Out – The summer holidays are here so come and meet our new arrivals at Foxholes Farm, meet Pedro and Paddy our friendly mules, along with Alvin and Theodore our two new alpacas. The farm park will be open every day throughout the summer holidays from 11am with last entry at 3pm.
As a producer we certainly know how to re-use products and we are gradually adopting more of an environmentally friendly policy. We hope to slowly phase out our current bags, although bio-degradable, to other more sustainable methods. Whilst visiting the farm shop our visitors are more than welcome to bring their own boxes, bags and even containers to carry your goods home. Our butchery, deli and pantry we will cut any size meat or cheese to order over the counter for you to save on having to use plastic bags.
The plentiful season has arrived! Radishes, runner beans, strawberries, lettuce, spinach, fennel, gooseberries and rhubarb are just a few of the delights which bring summer to your plate, and with Wimbledon Tennis upon us why not treat yourself to some strawberries and cream.
