December brings some magical moments here at foxholes farm but there’s a lot to do before my family and I can finally sit down together and enjoy the festivities. Cold frosty mornings on the farm look spectacular with the sun sparkling over the horizon, but we also have to work much harder to keep our cattle and other Animals safe and well.
Our Christmas tasting this year was truly spectacular. It was lovely to see our visitors welcomed with a glass of mulled wine whilst tucking into our tasting table of festive delights. Turkey, beef and ham along with condiments, cheeses and mince pies where all available to ensure our visitors could have the opportunity to try before they buy.
With the countdown to the big day underway, we reflect on what has been an amazing year. We kicked off with our first ever Easter lamb feeding sessions and opened up our small animal barn to the public. This was a huge success and gave us the further opportunity to open up 25 acres of our lovely farm park, which has also proved very popular with families. Our first ever butchery classes got under way, teaching traditional basic skills of how to work with pork and lamb whilst our little foodie farmers linked sausages and learnt about the farm and farm life.
It was a great surprise to us all this year when we won some local and national awards. In the Hertfordshire Life Magazine Food & Drink awards we won Independent Retailer of the year and Education of the year. In the Rural Business Awards we won, Employer of the year and came runner-up for best Rural diversification Project and we have just been shortlisted for best Regional Food & Drink award with the Countryside Alliance (Rural Oscars) which is a fantastic finish to a great year.
Our butchery counter can cater for all your meat requirements, helping to make the perfect Christmas feast. Although meat pre-ordering has finished, our butchery counters will be full to the brim with produce every day so do pop in or simply use our click & collect service. The farm shop is fully stocked with all the seasonal trimmings, fresh brussel sprouts, parsnips, chestnuts, cabbages, carrots, swedes and of course potatoes to complete the all important Christmas roast.
A wide selection of hampers and gifts are also available or why not come in and make up your own bespoke hamper. All our hampers are beautifully wrapped in wicker baskets or boxes then sealed with a festive ribbon and bow. Or for the boys we have a range of John Deere tractor toys, the little ones will love the Tractor Ted books and toys whilst for the booze lover we have a selection of fine artisan whiskey, port or gin.
Granny Smith’s Tea Room will be open, so feel free to pop in for a spot of lunch or a warm drink or just for a rest after too much shopping, we will be serving hot and cold food with a little festive spirit. So on that festive note, on behalf of myself and my team we would like to thank you for all your support and for visiting us, making us part of the local community, which helps make farming all worthwhile.
