Come what May?? And it certainly is here at Foxholes Farm.
After an intense month of lambing and lamb feeding it`s now easy to see why us farmers’ make all this effort. To see our orphan lambs happy playing in the fields, munching on luscious green grass brings big smiles to our faces.
Our donkeys and alpacas have settled into the Farm Park and our little Jersey boys are now feeding themselves and looking as cute as ever. With so much space to play in our goats are gloating with glee. Penelope the pig is just being her normal self by always sniffing and foraging for food and basking her lazy self in the spring sunshine, defiantly living up to how a pig should be.
With half term holidays nearly upon us our Farm Park will be open every day from 11.00am to 3.00pm with animal petting sessions. Entry fee applies as normal, please see our Farm Park website page for more details.
Our `Kitchen Garden’ is looking fabulous and starting to come to life. Douglas from ‘Sweet Pea Salads’ our resident kitchen gardener has been working very hard throughout the winter months preparing the salad seeds. With so many varieties to be harvested soon we can’t wait to see the finished product straight from field to plate. The salads are picked, prepared and bagged fresh on the day using absolutely no food miles.
We love to BBQ and to celebrate the start of the BBQ season and National BBQ Week we have some great tasty grass fed meats ready for the grill. Freshly made to order by our butchers we have spicy Piri piri chicken , lemon pepper chicken and minted lamb chops along with marinated pork ribs, beef steaks, burgers and kebabs. This is just some of the BBQ selection we have to offer so for whatever you need come and visit our butchery counter. Our burgers are delicious with melted cheese from our deli counter. We recommend Oxford Blue and Snowdonia Black bomber, both are big in flavour and great for the grill.
”What’s in season”- this month seasonal salads are a great addition to any BBQ feast. Fresh British asparagus has popped its head up early this year together with rocket, radishes and new potatoes these ingredients make super salads to go with our meat, especially lamb. Watch out for gooseberry’s at the end of the month or early June, these little green bubbles are bursting with flavour and are great for making jams, chutneys or the traditional gooseberry fool.
If you love a picnic (watch out for ‘Picnic Week’ next month) our deli counter will provide you with the perfect picnic food. From cold meats to fine cheese along with quiches, sausage rolls and pork pies we’ve got it covered. From next month all our deli products will be available to pre-order using our click & collect service. So what better excuse this time of year than to take advantage and explore the great outdoors.
