February… the month of food, love & romance and nothing says ‘I love you’ more than a gorgeous, homemade meal with local ingredients. For many of us home cooking has become a major trend, we tend to be cooking much more often using the freshest ingredients and more importantly shopping for ingredients locally. Since the call to stay home a majority of us are missing that ‘restaurant experience’ as we rediscover the joy of cooking at home. Here at Foxholes Farm we insure our meat is of the highest welfare and quality, our beef is traditionally dry-aged for up to three weeks to give the best taste. Whether it’s a sirloin steak, beef rib, slow-cook brisket or a fillet, our butchers will cut any size to order with minimal waste. We have always focused on the welfare of our animals and our team here at Foxholes really do step up to the mark when it comes to making sure our animals have the right environment, which means we can produce the juiciest and most tender cuts of meat.
This month we focus on ‘Valentines Day’, an excuse to deliver a plate of stunning food made by yourself. We have created a ‘steak night’ box for the steak lover, filled with 2x steaks, chips or potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, asparagus or broccoli, steak sauce, garlic butter, a dessert from our freezer and a bottle of red wine to wash it all down. If you’re a gammon lover try our gammon box, or our new breakfast box is a great way to start the day.
New to our on-line shop this month are our homemade cottage pies, fish pies, ham & chicken pies and bread pudding, these are all in the freezer section ready for you to pop in the oven. Fresh pork sausage rolls, beef & horseradish rolls, scotch eggs, pork pies and our cheese of the month ‘Whittington Red” makes an appearance, this red creamy cheese is a silky smooth cross between Double Gloucester and Red Leicester, with a mature lasting tang, together with our chutney range it sure is heavenly.
In season this month are blood oranges, bananas, haddock, scallops, leeks, cauliflower, carrots, parsnips and winter lamb. Make the most of root vegetables either roasted, sautéed or eaten raw, there is such a wide choice of vegetables this time of year. Our fresh fish is available Friday to Sunday or available frozen from our chiller all week, haddock is lovely this time of year as it’s in its prime, tastes light & sweet and yet is firmer than most fish when cooked. Our farm shop is full of local & regional ingredients and if you love a fun cookalong then tune into Rosemary Shrager’s family cookalong every Saturday at 5pm. You can buy the ingredients from our farm shop then cook away each Saturday. This week Rosemary cooks our favourite Toad-in-the-hole, all the recipe ingredients are listed weekly on our Facebook page.
Our ‘Deli on the Moove…’ is our food to go service offering customers, hot & cold drinks breakfast, lunch and snacks. From warm sausage rolls, scotch eggs, bacon sandwiches, homemade soup or sausage in a bun to burger & chips, we serve all day every day. Our cream teas are also very popular (Gluten Free options available) and with Valentines day & Mother’s day not very far away they always make the perfect gift. You can reserve on-line or just give our team a call to reserve one for the special day. The farm shop is always open with an array of delightful ingredients and fillings to make your ‘Shrove Tuesday’ go with a twist. Fresh fruit, maple syrup, coulis, honey and peanut butter make perfect sweet fillings. We have flour, eggs and milk all ready fo you to start flipping those pancakes! We have a wide range of foodie gifts, chocolates, champagne, beers, wine and of course ‘gin’, or locally made candles and gifts for the home. A member of our team will always make up a bespoke hamper with your choice of items in if you want to create a gift to be wrapped.
Whatever you get up to this month, family fun cookalong, flipping pancakes or cooking a romantic meal, make sure you make February ‘Fabulous’.
