As we leave behind the mini Hertfordshire heatwave this month our farm begins to embrace Harvest!
Planning for the winter months is a key part of our farming life as we cut to produce hay to feed all our animals throughout the winter months. The average cow will consume about 26lbs per day, so harvesting this time of year is a vital part of our animal welfare. Our Farm Park is open every day throughout the summer holidays, our pigs are enduring a lavish diet of healthy greens that come directly from the kitchen garden. Our goats are as naughty as ever, always giving our farm team the runaround, especially our baby ‘kid’ pigmy goats, they are such lovely characters, which keeps ‘Buddy’ our calf entertained! The alpacas have new summer haircuts and our sheep have been moved between paddocks by our local sheep herder. All in a days work here at Foxholes Farm!
The ‘Farmers Table’ serves great breakfasts, lunch and afternoon tea. If you’re planning a celebration our Tea Room can cater for up to 40 people, with plenty of parking and outside space for supervised children to play. All our food is freshly prepared by our team and although we are a working farm, we also serve vegan, vegetarian and gluten free dishes. Our cakes are make locally with our coffee and range of fine teas being regionally sourced. Ice cold Pimm’s, chilled meat platters and Prosecco are just some of the food and drink delights you can treat yourself to, or book in for our popular high tea for two. Open daily until 4pm!
Our Farm shop takes full of advantage of this seasons produce, aubergines, beetroot, broad beans potatoes, radishes, sweetcorn, raspberries and plums all make an appearance this month. We have plenty of local honey (excellent for hay- fever sufferers ), ice-creams and drinks to keep you cool, along with lots of soft fruit for making delicious chutneys and jams. When it comes to meat our butchers know best, using our very own top quality grass fed beef our butchers will prepare any meat, at any size for you to take home.
